As of August 28, 2009, Missouri law requires that all home builders offer consumers the option of having a fire sprinkler system installed in their new home. The law protects the consumer’s right to accept or decline the builder’s offer to install a fire sprinkler system.
To assist builders, the Home Builders Association of St. Louis and Eastern Missouri (HBA) and the Missouri Fire Service Alliance (FSA) have worked together to create educational materials for consumers that will provide them with a basic understanding of what it will mean to have a fire sprinkler system installed in their home. Also, the HBA and FSA have created a form to help demonstrate that builders are offering a fire sprinkler system in their new home. The HBA asks that a copy of this form be returned via fax (314.432.7185) or email (sikess@hbastl.com) to HBA staff to help track the number of systems installed in St. Louis and Eastern Missouri. Both of these documents are available below for builders to download and use.
If you have any questions about residential fire sprinklers or Missouri’s mandatory offer law, please do not hesitate to contact HBA staff as we are here to help.
