What is the Home Builders Benefit Plan?
The Home Builders Benefit Plan offers opportunities to provide benefits typically enjoyed by larger companies – including lower premiums and more coverage options – to eligible HBA members with 2-50 employees. Eligible HBA members include companies who are home builders or remodelers, or companies which directly support home building and remodeling, such as subcontractors and building material suppliers. Please check the list of eligible business categories (Standard Industrial Classification Codes) here.

What if my company has more than 50 employees?
While your company is not able to be part of the Home Builders Benefit Plan, the HBA is pleased to be able to offer a 5% discount on rates from UnitedHealthcare through a discount for HBA member companies with 51-99 employees. Contact your broker to see if this option might be a fit for your company.

Is the Home Builders Benefit Plan through an insurance company I know?
Yes, the Home Builders Benefit Plan is a fully insured plan offered through UnitedHealthcare.

What types of insurance are included?
You will receive quotes for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. You may select any or all of these coverages.

Are there multiple plan options to choose from or is it one-size-fits-all?
The Home Builders Benefit Plan offers numerous plan options so that you can choose the right fit for your company.

When is the plan effective?
The initial effective date for insurance through the Home Builders Benefit Plan is 1/1/2020. After that, companies will be allowed to enroll on the first of each month. Renewals will take place annually.

What if I’m already a customer of the insurance carrier for the Home Builders Benefit Plan?
Your company will have the opportunity to switch from your current plan to the Home Builders Benefit Plan at your next renewal date.

How do I get a quote?
The HBA has been working closely with member J.W. Terrill, a Marsh & McLennan Agency over the past 18 months to establish the Home Builders Benefit Plan. J.W. While you are not required to use a specific broker, J.W. Terrill is serving as the project consultant for the Home Builders Benefit Plan. What if I’m not a member but thinking about joining to take advantage of this benefit?
You do not have to be a member to get a quote but you must be a member in good standing to enroll in the program.

If I join the Home Builders Benefit Plan, do I have to stay in the Plan?
Upon entering the Home Builders Benefit Plan, you will have a one-year contract, similar to any other insurance policy. After one year, you can decide to stay in the Plan or consider other options.

Are there any fees associated with joining the Home Builders Benefit Plan?
Each company that enrolls in the Home Builders Benefit Plan or takes advantage of the HBA member 5% discount program will be responsible for an annual Access Fee payable to the HBA. The Access Fee will be the equivalent of $5 per employee enrolled per month, payable at the time the employer decides to either enroll in the Plan or take advantage of the 5% discount program. The Access Fee will be utilized to defray expenses incurred by the HBA related to this member benefit.
